TRADECARD, UNIVERSAL EC JOIN FORCES TO BRING WEB-ENABLED FINANCIAL SETTLEMENT TO TAIWAN TRADERS
Universal EC's high-tech customers will benefit from greater efficiencies in trade transaction processing
Taipei, April 29, 2002 -TradeCard, Inc. today announced a partnership agreement with Universal EC
Inc. (UEC), a Taiwan-based provider of integrated B2B application software and e-commerce solutions that will
enable Universal EC to offer the TradeCard financial supply chain platform to the Taiwan trading community,
starting with its own customer base of companies in the high-tech manufacturing sector. TradeCard's patented
service for online transaction management and financial settlement enables buyers and sellers around the world to
conduct domestic and cross-border trade transactions securely over the Internet.
At a later stage the two companies plan to integrate TradeCard's financial supply chain platform and Universal EC's
e-logistics and e-finance applications to enable businesses to complete the complex value chain of international
trade, from purchase order to proof of delivery to payment.
"This alliance will benefit TradeCard by leveraging Universal EC's 17 years of experience in business IT and
Internet services in Taiwan and in Greater China," said Kurt Cavano, Chairman and CEO, TradeCard Inc. "The close
collaboration will provide Taiwan's traders with a fully automated tool to conduct their trade transactions
online, not just from purchase order to payment, but also, for the first time, collaborating with automated
customs clearance services".
"TradeCard offers cost-effective cross-border online ordering and payment assurance solutions," says Terry Lee,
President of Universal EC's Logistics business unit. "A buyer and seller can simply access TradeCard's website or
connect via a corporations' ERP system for online order acknowledgment, payment assurance, trading document
exchange, automatic payment approval and financing. This is a major departure from traditional settlement
methods, which required great manpower and paper-intensive processes such as the issuing of a letter of credit
and the associated document checking. For us, customer satisfaction is paramount and by offering TradeCard's
functionalities to our customers we are confident to invest in the future success of Taiwan's trading community.
Lee continued, "Future integration of TradeCard's international financial supply chain and Universal EC's business
applications will further ensure seamless processing of trade transactions for Taiwan companies, reduce
international trading costs and enhance Taiwan's competitive advantage.
